Ear wax removal

Over the last few years you may have noticed it has come increasingly difficult to get an appointment for wax removal at your local GP. This is due to changes in funding at Primary Care level and the backlog of patients due to the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic.

If your ears are blocked with excessive wax you are probably suffering with reduced hearing. You also could be finding the issue rather uncomfortable and maybe even painful. For these reasons, people need the wax to be removed quickly and painlessly as soon as possible.

High Peak Hearing is a fully ENT trained provider of wax removal services to help you with this issue.

A man having microsuction via video endoscope

We use a video endoscope to assist in removing ear wax. This allows the audiologist to fully visualise the ear canal and locate the wax in order to carefully remove it using ENT micro-instruments like ear hooks, Jobson Horne, or by gently suctioning via a microsuction machine and a fine, sterile probe.

This procedure is safe, effective, and minimally invasive. At times, we may complement microsuction with the irrigation method to remove stubborn, wet ear wax. This type of wax can often be caused by the use of certain ear drops. During the irrigation procedure, we gently flush the ear with water for a few seconds. However, because we only use this method in combination with microsuction, we're able to reduce the need for prolonged irrigation, which can minimise the discomfort and risk that patients may experience. This approach provides a safe and effective way to remove ear wax build-up and improve hearing.

Appointments last up to 45 mins to allow time to go through a medical history and consent form. Then we will show you the build up of wax using a video otoscope. Once the procedure is over, we can show you the results again with the video otoscope.

We recommend the use of olive oil spray (such as Earol) twice a day for 4 days leading up to your appointment. This will soften and loosen wax ready for micro suction. The Boots store in New Mills usually has Earol in stock or you can purchase from us.

Wax removal appointments are £69.00 and can be booked online or by the contact details below. If you have any questions prior to booking, please do not hesitate to ask.

“Excellent service and attention to detail was fantastic. Daniel provided a thorough explanation throughout my appointment describing what he would be doing and took videos and photos for me to see the before and after. A very pleasant experience and I wholeheartedly recommended for any hearing or ear related queries or concerns. Daniel is extremely experienced and has a wealth of knowledge he is happy to share.”

“I saw Daniel today for ear wax removal and general advice about my hearing and hearing devices. He was friendly, clearly very knowledgeable and experienced and I was highly satisfied with the service and customer care I received. He took time to explain the treatment and answer all my questions. My experience here was significantly better than previous visits to one of the well known high street providers of these services. I will be using High Peak Hearing again in the future.”
